There has been a research conducted on the effects of morphine compared to the effects of holistic medicine. It has been discovered that holistic medicine is far more effective than morphine.
The study was conducted at the Fattaouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Tunisia. The researchers who were involved in this study claim that intravenous morphine is less effective at easing pain than acupuncture.
Morphine is a strong pain medication which unfortunately causes numerous side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, anxiety, mild itching, headaches, constipation, stomach pain, drowsiness, dizziness, exhaustion, etc. Beside all these, there are other risk related to morphine, such as addiction, misuse and abuse.
The worst part of taking opioids like Morphine is the fact that it can actually worsen chronic pain rather than reduce it. This means that holistic alternative to treating pain is crucial in order to avoid the dangers of conventional pharmaceutical pain treatment.
According to a certain research, one of the most effective holistic treatments is acupuncture.
Study: Acupuncture versus Morphine
300ED patients were evaluated in the study performed in the Emergency Department of Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital. 150 of them were administered up to 15 mg of morphine on a daily basis, while the other half were given acupuncture treatment for address their pain. The results showed the following: Between the 2 groups, the success rate was very different (92% in the acupuncture group vs 78% in the morphine group P < .001). Resolution time was 16 ± 8 minutes in the acupuncture group vs 28 ± 14 minutes in the morphine group (P < .005).
The participants In the acupuncture group reported significantly larger pain decrease from the 5 minute time point when compared with the morphine group.
In other words, 89 patients or 29.6% experienced minor adverse effects: 85 (56.6%) in morphine group and 4 (2.6%) in acupuncture group (P < .001). During the study protocol, no major side-effects were recorded.
Acupuncture helped people to experience significant pain reduction. The best part is that the effect occurred faster and with much less side-effects when compared to the morphine group.
Western Medicine Recognizes Acupuncture as an Effective Medical Treatment
As you all already know, the Chinese people were the first who discovered acupuncture which later spread to Japan, Korea and other parts of Asia and it has been accepted as a medical treatment. In 1996, acupuncture became an accepted form of medical treatment endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) whose report states:
