Scoliosis is abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, which is an extremely painful condition and it is scarry as it sounds. However, you don’t have to panic because in this article we will present you a story of an 86-years-old lady who managed to cure her disease.
Anna Pesce was the old lady who realized that things had gone too far when her condition put her in a wheelchair. In 2014, she went on a trip to Wagner, SC in order to visit her family. On this same trip she experienced severe pain in her spine, and that was the end of her fun.
Psce tells The Post: “I had this horrible pain shooting up my back. I had to be carried up the stairs and put into a wheelchair for the rest of my stay.”
Even thouhg it developed slowly, the scoliosis still had taken its toll on the New York native.
This lady explained that she had done anything, from acupuncture, going to a physical therapist to seeing a chiropractor. She was only feeling good for a while, and then the pain returned again.
At last, her daughter decided to introduce her to Rachel Jesian who is a certified yoga instructor and back specialist. In the beginning, the yoga instructor worked with the old lady on restorative poses and stretches, which helped Pesce to walk again after just one month.
“After two months, another big milestone was that [Pesce] knew what poses to do whenever the usual pains would come up for her,” Jesien says. “For example, if she was having hip pain, she’d sit on a chair and do an ankle-to-knee pose.”
A massage therapist recommended Jaisen back-care yoga in 2010 when she discovered the great benefits of yoga. She explains how she had to wear back brace for 5 years and to go to physical therapy every week, but the only thing that really helped her was back-care yoga.
Once these two women began their work, it seemed like miracles have happened.
“I feel wonderful now because I can drive by myself and do the things I wasn’t able to do before,” Pesce says. “I would recommend this to other people.”
As you can see, this is far from being a miracle, it’s just yoga and it is available for all of us, so practice yoga and enjoy its benefits.
