According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the most toxic fish is farmed Salmon. Moreover, the EPA recommends people to avoid consuming farmed Salmon, or at least eliminate it to one meal of farmed salmon per month.
People should be aware of the fact that farm raised fish of ALL species can spell disaster for their health in many different ways. The reason why they are so harmful is because farmed fish are fed with corn, grains, poultry and pork. Moreover, they are also given a dangerous antibiotics, synthetic pigments and concoction of vitamins, depending on the type of fish.
Farmed Salmon – One of the Most Toxic Foods in the World
Even if it sounds terrible, one research has discovered that the most abundant source of toxic exposure are not the antibiotics or pesticides, but the dry pellet feed. They discovered dioxins, PCBs, and a number of different drugs and chemicals in the fish feed. Omega-3 Levels in Farmed Salmon Is Nearly Half of That in Wild Salmon
The International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organization (IFFO), explains that today’s farmed fillet may contain as little as half of the omega-3s as it did less than a decade ago. This is happening due to the fact that nowadays, farmed salmon are feasting on byproducts of soybeans and soybean oil, canola oil, corn, hog and poultry processing, and other grain instead of small wild fish high in omega-3s.
Farmed Salmon Can Cause Cancer
It should be mentioned that people who eat more than one meal of farm-raised salmon per month can be in a greater risk of developing cancer in the future. The main reason are the increased levels of chemicals and antibiotics.
Make sure to definitely avoid eating farm-raised salmon as it contains PCBs which are cancer-causing chemicals at a concentration 16 times higher than wild salmon, and the level of dioxin is also higher, by a factor of 11 fold. It also contains higher levels of inflammation producing omega 6-fatty acids.
As you all know, inflammation is the main cause of numerous health conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, coronary artery disease and cancer.
Banned Synthetic Astaxanthin
No government has ever approved synthetic astaxanthin for human consumption, but farmed salmon still gets filled full with this chemical. Farmed fish is given a feed which has a dull gray color. The reason why this potentially harmful variety of astaxanthin is given to farmed salmon is to make it look fresh and with more pink color so humans who eat farmed salmon will be fooled into believing they are eating real wild fish.
Did you know that Farmed Salmon:
- have seven times the levels of PCB’s as wild salmon
- have 30 times the number of sea lice
- are fed soy, genetically modified canola oil, pellets of chicken feces, corn meal and other fish containing concentrations of toxins
- have less omega 3’s due to lack of wild diet
- are susceptible to more disease
- are fed toxic chemicals to give them color
- are given antibiotics at higher levels than any other livestock
Whenever you go to a restaurant and you order salmon, make sure it says wild salmon on the menu, because if not, it means that it is farmed. Moreover, you should try to make healthy dinner choices for your family, so try to choose land animals or wild salmon and keep them healthy and safe.
