Many people do not know about its negative side which is that alumnum is neurotoxin that can negatively affect on the brain and nervous system. But, experts revealed that aluminium can be also factor for developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Their study was published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience and according to their findings, the link which is connecting the aluminum to Alzheimer’s disease is based on seven independent observations:
- it stimulates beta- amyloid plaques in the brain
- it inflamates the brain by increasing the proinflammatory molecule -nuclear factor – kapa beta (NF- kB) which is important feature in the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
- Large number of studies reveal that there is a relationship between the level of aluminum in tap water and the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease.
- It appears disorder in mRNA molecule which carry genetic information from DNA, caused by aluminum and this is common for people who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
- Aluminum was added in the food of experimental animals which suffer from Alzheimer’s, there were changes in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease as programmed cell death, oxidative stress and deficiency in the genetic expression.
It is too much early for making definitive conclusions because it is not possible to test these theories on people. Scientists try to reach to some knowledge about the effect of aluminum on the neurological system only by testing it on animals. Scientists have so far proved that aluminum even in a minimum dose is causing disruption in learning, problems in behavior and Alzheimer’s disease. They found that mice who consumed aluminum through food have increased cognitive disorder in their older age.
Aluminum exposure causes neurological changes, same as in patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Actually it causes formation of neurofibrillary tangles- abnormal forms of deformed proteins in nerve cells that stop the communication between them.
Early signs of aluminum poisoning is manifested by muscle weakness, pain in bones, seizures and confusion. This poisoning in children can cause retarded growth and development. But, this poisoning can cause more serious problems as diseases of brain, nervous system, lung problems and anemia. Some studies reveal that if the embryo is exposed to aluminum it may cause deformities and develop abnormalities.
Where can be found aluminum?
If you are among those people who consume too much aspirin, multivitamins and drugs you are exposing yourselves on risk and aluminum can easily accumulate inside your organism. But, we enter aluminum daily through food and many meals are made from aluminum. In cooking process and by storing the food, the aluminum enters inside the food.
How to protect ourselves from exposure to aluminum?
When the exposure is little, the organism can release it. But still, it should be avoided because sometimes we are not aware for its exposure.
Select and purchase foods that are not packed with aluminum foil and if you prepare food in aluminum foil immediately after cooking transfer your food into another container.
Do not leave food sealed in aluminum foil, use plastic wrap. Always eat freshly prepared food, avoid canned food and processed.
